RECENT

Realist water themed portraits immersed and isolated in water, explore the dissolution and annihilation of the body as a spiritual experience. Portraits are mostly full sized and solitary, with the paint emphasizing distortions, juxtaposed next to anchors of representation. The paintings address the temporal nature of life and the depth of shared, emotional and spiritual journeys, even when one is completely alone.

2019-2023 GEN Z PORTRAITS

I've been personally invested in the Gen Z youth of my community. This portrait series confronts the social stereotypes and attendant tropes of youth, by holding space for the complex emotions and constant changes in each person's experience. As the boundaries between the sitter and her environment subtly blur and flow together, either through interruptions of color and paint or through the metaphoric connection between subject and ground, the paintings become both personal and mythic tableaus.

Whenever possible, each sitter chose something personal and authentic that they would wear or how they chose to be represented. Working with all of these young people, my own included, gave me enormous respect and empathy for them, that grew as I painted their portraits. A silent understanding comes and gratitude comes from being allowed into their complex world.

2018-2021 GREEN FORMS

This series of leaf paintings emerged from a longing for green immersion during the winter months. The small panels invite an intimate exploration of monochromatic forms, where the shallow depth of field evokes the feel of an aerial landscape or a frieze. This perspective offers a sense of chlorophyll and light, bringing a touch of vitality into the viewer's field.
