I'm really excited to be joining Shift Gallery in downtown Seattle, which is featuring my new work, alongside the mesmerizing photographic art of fellow Shift member, John Woodruff. Check it out..
Out of new (old) processes came new paintings. After several years of carefully constructing portraits, I'm experimenting by bringing back a more intuitive approach. Building from drawing repetitions, and physical, non-cognitive mark making, allows the painting to create itself. The dialectic tension of making meaning by finding meaning, as well as the reverse, still pervade my thinking, not just in painting, but through much of life. Constant questioning. Is anything really solid and substantial? That's sort of a rhetorical dharma question.
Would you like to join me? Opening night, January 2, from 5 - 8 pm, features an interactive opportunity for you to experiment with your own, non-cognitive inner guidance. A large format surface for marking on and plenty of markers, will be provided for gallery-goers to create the foundational marks and drawings for the painting that I will do for the month of January, there, at the gallery itself. Come and make your mark!
